Intelligence

I wrote this last night when I was feeling a little melancholy over some family arguments. It didn't turn out as poignant as I wished, but it was never meant to be a life-changing thought... anyway:

Intelligence is a curse.
Our human race has made it to where it is today because of it's intelligence. Our intelligence is what has eradicated countless species from the Earth in our quest for domination. Our intelligence is what has choked our waterways, spoilt our soil and contaminated our air.
Our intelligence created society. The same money based society that is the source of the majority of our stresses. Our intelligence has created family troubles. Our intelligence is what placed us at the very top of the food chain, and, ironically, it is this intelligence that has caused us so much grief. Does a wombat get depressed?
I think intelligence and self awareness is our punishment for fucking everything up.
