Dial-up

It sucks. It really does. I can't believe anyone can even begin to consider continuing to use it.
My uncle does. I'm at his place now fixing his PC, and that involves updating the anti-virus software. 16MB on dial-up is no fun at all. Especially at 26Kbps. Man I'm bored. I can't even check my email coz it will slow the connection too much. Oh, and another thing, the connection disconnects itself whenever the screen saver activates. That just makes it THAT much more annoying. It's a funny thought that the 'net on my phone is faster than the 'net on this PC. Albeit much more expensive...
At least I have my H340. Speaking of which, Needleboy, the guy that used to make the H300 experimental build of Rockbox on the www.MisticRiver.net forums, up and quit the game the other day. At least this version is rather stable and feature-packed. Another guy is doing a slightly optimised build for himself and distributing that, but it's not as well documented, updated, or feature packed. Oh well. Thank you Needleboy for doing what you did.
Another thing concerning my H340: I've been wanting to update the HDD to 60GB for some time now, and the other day I decided it was time. I found a dirt-cheap "as-is" HDD on eBay (US$80 after shipping, compared to the usual US$175) and decided to take the gamble. It arrived a short 4 or so days later, as did the USB enclosure I bought with it.
Not entirely suprising, but the HDD didn't work. It squeals and clicks when you turn it on, and doesn't get recognised, or even send data to the PC (The activity light on the enclosure doesn't light up). So I've downloaded a hard drive repair guide, and am going to have a go at fixing it. I just need some "star" screwdrivers to open the sucker up. Also, the enclosure doesn't properly fit the double platter HDD. Sucks, hey?
In other news, Alex lent Mum and I the "Lost" Series One boxset last week. "Lost" is fucken awesome. Shit it's cool. Motherfucking totally kickass. I now just have to wait until I get ADSL so I can torrent series two. I applied for ADSL two days ago. Unfortunately, ADSL2/2+ isn't yet available in our area, so we had to sign up for 1500k ADSL. Oh well. Rumour has is that my exchange should be ADSL2+ ready in June. So we're buying a 2+ compatible modem in the hope that it will be, and we can upgrade. Be sweet if we can get good speeds on the island.
So yeah, that's it in my life really, and although there is a little more to tell, I think I've written enough.
'Till next time!

quickie

I'm up at the Hunter Valley house right now (meaning I have access to the 'net), but alas, we are heading out very soon to go to my brother's farewell dinner, so I don't have time for a significant post.
Sorry.
I now have all the info I need to get that ADSL2+ account started, so hopefully it will only be a matter of weeks until I have the 'net again...
Sorry for such dull updates lately.

Listening to: Orchestra Morphine - The band that toured as Morphine after Mark Sandman (lead singer and bass player) died. It's pretty fekkin cool. I reckon you folk should check out Morphine anyway. One of my top bands they are.

Apathy

It's funny how a situation can move so quickly from a near overwhelming amount of opportunities, back to the same old dismal state of nothing. This year began so full of opportunities, yet they've all but passed me by.
Life at the moment is so monotonous it's killing me. I need to start living my life. I'm pissing my degree up the wall as well as my life. I need to get that license, I know I do. I know how important it is, yet every day passes, with me thinking "I really should book some lessons," yet I never do. Every day I think "I really should write Helen that letter," yet I always find some excuse not to (mainly that there is no lined paper).
So yeah, I'm pissed off at myself right now. I'm the world's most apathetic motherfucker, and I'm not happy with my life because of that.
That's my rant.

So slack

Yep, it's been ages since my last post. Largely because I still don't have the 'net at home yet. Things have been happening, but nothing I can be bothered typing up on my phone. I really need the internet at home. We FINALLY got a phone line yesterday (or maybe today), so I can now arrange ADSL2 for our place. I'll be stoked if we can get good speeds.
But yeah, until I get the 'net, I'm not going to post anything significant.
Until then,
Simon

Listening to: Peter's depressing music. He's picking depressing songs for the compilation CDs he's making his friends to mark his departure.
Oh yeah, he's leaving for Collarenebri on Sunday. He's jackarooing for 10 months up there. Hope it goes well for him.

Rhapsody

Oh man. Rhapsody rock. Seriously.
Got the album Legendary Tales this week, and god damn it rocks. Symphonic metal. Could it get any better? Well yes; listening to it while watching the milkdrop winamp plugin. Matter of fact that's what I'm doing now.

Moving sucks

No totally, it really sucks.
Mum and I had to pack the truck ourselves this morning, which took a goddamn long time. Then we drove it down, which took a goddamn long time. Then we loaded up the barge, which took a goddamn long time. Then we carried it all up the stairs to our house, which took a goddamn long time.
In short, I'm fucking buggered, fucking smelly, and a little peeved coz we didn't bring down any beds (they're still up at the Hunter house because we wanted somewhere to sleep when we go back up - we'll be buying some this week).
In fact, I'm so buggered, I can't be bothered typing anymore. Will fill you in when I have the net available to me.

Family

Well I didn't write that letter to Helen today... I suppose I knew I wouldn't. Instead I had an argument with my younger brother. A pretty fucken big one. So big I walked for 2 hours just to get away. Pete (the brother) can be the very worst person I have ever known. He becomes a shit everytime he doesn't get much sleep - and what a shit he was today.
But anyway, other things did happen today. I started (and finished) book 2 of Preacher - a comic Boggle lent me. Very fucking cool actually. Recommended.
But most importantly we put a deposit on a rental place in Sydney. Or rather, closer to Sydney. It's on Scotland Island. A small place, but pretty and above all cheap. It will be fucking great to be back in civilisation (i.e. A public transport serviced area), but I have to start paying a small amount of rent. So does Peter - and that's where the problem lies; Peter can't budget for shit. So I really hope he keeps up with the rent.
So yeah, that was my day. Meant to be exciting, but in reality just shit.
Later.

Me again.

Howdy peeps (noticed I have a reader I've never met before - so an extra amazed hello to you Viola D!).
Sooooo.... where's my life now? I don't really know if any real progress has been made (should life always be moving forward anyway? I suppose at my age it really should... so at least for the moment making no progress is a bad thing).
Where was I at my last post? Ah yes, Big Day Out... Was actually watching the Big Day In (the telecast of this and previous Big Day Outs) yesterday at Ross' new place. I became all nostalgic... I Love Big Day Out. I really do. Actually, during that, Sophie called me. We had a lovely conversation, but it turns out she's moving back to Taree soon. Sucks... I should have caught up with her for cofee earlier.
Aaaanyway...
So yeah. My Brother Alex went to do his SCUBA diving course the other week, and I filled in for him at work. 4 days of moving safes; I felt so manly. Kinda. At least the money was good, and heaven knows I need money after NZ.
I also worked a day the following week, so money wasn't too bad the following week either (being paid for Friday AND Tuesday of that week). But, alas, I've had to buy both PUSA and Suicide Girl tockets, as well as pay the $86 overdrawn amount off of my Credit card. So, once again, Money is tight. Hoping to work sometime this week - and will be if Jason's Wife gives birth (so I'll have to cover for him).
Alex loved the SCUBA course. So much so that he is enrolling in a more advanced one, and then several more. He's hoping to become a Police diver. Crazy... It's good that he has hobbies he enjoys, coz heaven knows he doesn't like his job. Hmmm, that's twice I've said "heaven knows."
Hmmm I remember last weekend being good... ah yes, that's right, we went down to Hornsby for an "Old Skool" night (i.e. the kinda night we would have had when we were 18). It was a good nigfht actually. Ended up staying at Tristan's place. Woke up at the embarrassing hour of 2pm. Yikes, probably haven't done that since I was 18 either. Funnily enough, 4 suburbs away, Boggle and Ross woke up at 1pm after the same night... I guess it was expected. A wonderfully male breakfast of a hamburger with the lot (with chips) later, Tristan and I watched the Suicide Girls DVD. Damn good soundtrack actually (I'm not saying it was underground or in anyway musically special, I just really enjoyed it). I wish there were one available to purchase. As there isn't, I'm going to have to find either a) a pre-compiled torrent of one (none found to date, in fact I've already given up) or b) download all the songs myself, and compile on myself. Pain in the ass on my my connection, and P2P has never been as good since Napster died. Curse you LARS!!
Anyway, after the DVD, Tristan and I headed over to Jon's place for a Kung Fu and Pizza night. His local video shop is selling off all of their Martial Arts section for $1 a pop. So we visit that fairly regularly. They fucken rock. There are these groups of Aussie guies that take old Martial Arts movies and splice themselves into them. Of course they can never interact with the original characters, so their fighting scenes are totally unrelated to any of the "orginal" characters. Pretty funny. To compound the humour further, they over dub their own English lines with new voices. Why, I don't rightly know. They also wear really bright ninja costumes with headbands that read "NIN JA." Seriously. Totally classic. We ended up staying up to 6am (no beer needed) watching these ninja movies, Rage (it was a fucking emo special. Fucking emo), and Christain TV. Funny fucking shit Chritstian TV. Some preacher rabbitting on about how the Devil is not only real, but very powerful, and of course the soul reason for war, pestilence etc. I bet.
Last week. I don't think much happened during the week. Or did it? Like I said, I don't remember. Bought my tickets. Bought some CDs (as usual). Went over to Brendan's place for drinks and movies.
Had people up Friday night (Brendan, Leanne and Boggle), and we watched some Pete and Pete (I cannot express how much I Love Pete and Pete), and some terrible movies (Namely Hercules in New York). Yup Terrible. Went over to Ross' new place for a BBQ Sat night. He's moved out to Lane Cove West (with his Brother, Andrew, and his wife, Sally).
And here I am now at home.
Hoping to go see the Johnny Cash movie on Tuesday with Agata, only thing is that I haven't asked her yet... will do that tomorrow.
I still haven't actually written that letter to Helen. Fuck I'm a bum. I'll do that when I'm in Sydney tomorrow too. I hope.
Yup, I'm a bum alright.
Drove the Ute home from the station today (~45 minutes). Gettin better. Need to get that license. NEED it.
Is that it?
Probably.
Later peeps.
